How i met your mother in english

During this period in order to improve my english i have watched a lot of american soap opera as how i met your mother or the big bang theory.

I've found it very useful.

I've learnt a lot of new words and i got them mine repeating them sometime.

I think at words like glare or sparkle.

Very specific words but they can be useful in some particular situations.

Reflection on the presentation of 16/10/2013

Me and Andrea did a presentation upon the business plan of Trenitalia.
I think that we did a very good presentation.
We used some visual informations and i think they were very good.
Our presentation had a very clear and logical organization.
I have just a few regrets.
I answered in a bad way to some questions;
so if i had answered in a better way i would have concluded the presentation in a better way.
Moreover we finished our presentation in 7.30 minutes and maybe if me and andrea had done the presentation in 5 minutes it would have been better.
But i thin that even if we made a few mistakes our presentation was good.

Sing and learn english

I think that english songs are really useful in order to increase our grammar skills.
Maybe for someone like me, that really like to listen songs, it's easier learn grammar listening to music.
Listening to english songs we learn a lot of english construct and a lot of new words.

This is a very famous pop song.
It has a very simple text but i want to focus upon some aspects of the text.

First of all i want to speak about the construct Safe and Sound.
I mean through this song i learn that the italian "sano e salvo" is not "safe and alive" but "safe and sound".

The second point i want to focus upon is the word appreciate.
For an italian like me appreciate has a very difficult pronounce;
listening to this song a lot of time i learn the right pronounciation of the word appreciate.

The third important aspects is learn new words.
I learn that tidal means "marea" and i collocate tidal with wave of mystery.
i learn lift as a synonym of raise.

Even if this song has a very simple i could focus upon some aspects of english grammar and increase my skills.

Leaving New York

In order to practise the third conditional i listened "leaving new york" by R.E.M
I find it interesting cause the third conditional is structured with might.
Listening accurately to the song i appreciate the "no pronunciation" of the auxiliaries in the chorus.

"You might have laughed if i told you"...
i really like the song;
honestly i didn't know it.

Collocation

I think is very important to learn new words and the right expressions.
I find very useful the COLLOCATION.
I mean I remember every words we collocate the last week.
hevy rain,strong wind and i'll never say "to take a coffe" again;
now i know that the right collocation is "to have a coffe".

Cool...

MY PERSONAL GOAL

During this course i'd like to increase my english skills.
In a particular way i'd like to increase my writing skills and my pronunciation,
moreover i'd like to learn some phrasal verbs because i think that they are very important in order to develop a fluent english.
One more thing that i'd like to understand better is the use of the past's tenses.
I mean understand better in which situation i should use a tense rather than another one.
I  never understand this particular thing even if i studied it a lot of times.


I hope i will achieve some of these goals.
I will update my progresses on this blog,
moreover i will update on the blog everything about my self study.
I'll try to include in my self study some of the points that sean suggests on his blog.
